Overview

By 2050, our oceans will carry more plastics than fish (by weight). Plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental challenges we face as we see the adverse effects on the marine life and even on our health. Plastics have found their way to the most remote beaches and even the deepest ocean's trench. When you visit the beaches and coastal areas of the communities that make up the Uramba National Natural Park, the first thing you will notice is the plastics washed on the beach, which was classified as an environmental emergency. The geographical position of this coastal area of the Pacific Ocean allows the accumulation of plastic waste that has reached the ocean mainly from land sources coming from different mouths of rivers and tributaries that descend from the western mountain range, source of the Anchicaya river and Farallones de Cali.

Conservation Partner

Plastico Precioso Uramba recycles plastics in the communities that make up the URAMBA National Natural Park (PNN). They raise awareness about the plastic pollution and implement a solution to divert the plastics from the oceans through transformation. The process involves collecting the plastic waste from the area and turning it into something precious that can be used again.
